Brief Career Details

Bill Rickarby practised in crime, family and general common law on the Northern Circuit from1976 to 1985. He was then employed by Merseyside County Council, Prosecuting Solicitor, 1985; Senior Crown Prosecutor in Merseyside, 1986 to 1989; Principal Crown Prosecutor with West Mercia CPS, Droitwich, 1989 to 1994.

He returned to the Bar in 1994 when he joined the Midland and Oxford Circuit.

His employment in the CPS included management of teams of lawyers and unqualified staff. The work involved criminal cases at all levels, including murders. It also entailed preparation of cases for the Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal. At both national and local level he was involved in the training of new prosecutors and in preparing, organising and delivering “in house” training with a particular emphasis on violence, child abuse and sexual cases.

Crime

Since returning to the independent bar he has specialised in criminal work, acting both for prosecution (Grade III) and defence, including work in the Divisional Court and Court of Appeal. He accepts instructions in relation to ASBO and SOPO applications.
