Crime & Regulatory Offences
Recommended in 'The Legal 500' for his serious criminal defence work, Peter Cooke now specialises in business defence, corporate and regulatory crime. He has a master's degree in Environmental Law in which he achieved a distinction and won two post-graduate prizes. Peter has many years' experience of handling criminal cases of the utmost complexity and sensitivity, often as leading counsel, including major conspiracies, fraud and money laundering, computer and internet crime, homicide, and cases involving RIPA and sensitive or specialist policing techniques (e.g. Aujla & Others (1998) 2 Cr App R 16, CA: admissibility of foreign telephone intercepts and R v Platten [2006] CLR 920, CA.: admissibility of “evesdrop” evidence as between conspirators).
Civil Law
Peter acts for claimants and defendants, public and private bodies and individuals. He has particular interests in Town & Country Planning and Development (a major component of his post-graduate studies), judicial review, licensing and general commercial litigation including construction and business tenancies.
Police Law
He has particular experience in conducting misconduct hearings for various forces across the country. He also practises in the areas of civil actions involving the police, Proceeds of Crime, Anti-Social Behaviour and Sexual Offences Prevention Orders and Firearms licensing, and regularly advises on police powers and legal professional privilege.
Public Access
Peter is trained under the Bar's Public Access scheme and is pleased to accept direct instructions from companies or individuals in appropriate cases
