Brief Career Details
Following a successful pupillage, Jonathan Veasey-Pugh became a tenant of chambers in September 2006. He is principally instructed in criminal matters but is also available in other related areas of practice. Jonathan has a great deal of experience in the Magistrates’ Court as well as a successful Crown Court practice. He is involved in organising social events for Chambers and from his own interests brings specific knowledge regarding firearms and rural matters.
Crime
Jonathan is a keen criminal advocate. He has a growing prosecution practice but principally defends. He has represented defendants charged with serious crimes and prides himself on an ability to communicate with all clients in an effective, straightforward and sensitive way. His preparation and courtroom advocacy are of a high standard and have been the subject of praise from the Court of Appeal.
Road Traffic
Jonathan has a particular interest in road traffic cases. He has a regular private practice representing those accused of a variety of motoring offences. This can be a detailed area and he is happy to advise solicitors and lay clients in advance of any hearing.
Prison Law
Jonathan has represented the interests of inmates at prison adjudication hearings, regarding prison discipline matters, and also in an advisory capacity. He is keen to expand this practice into other areas including parole hearings.
Police Law
Jonathan is a member of the Police Law Team. He has experience of cases involving Sex Prevention Orders, POCA matters, the production order regime for special procedure material and Inquests. He has also been instructed to represent the police in the area of licensing.
