Evelyn accepts instructions predominantly in the following areas:

 

Divorce and Ancillary Relief

This includes defended divorces and representing litigants in ancillary relief disputes (privately and publicly funded and including breakdown in civil partnerships). She has been instructed in appeals, ancillary relief applications tried by the High Court, and on occasion as an intervener.

 

Children
  1. Public Law
    She acts for parents, is instructed by local authorities and represents the children in regular and emergency applications. Evelyn has been involved in a number of care cases tried in the High Court including those involving Munchausen’s syndrome and serious assaults on children.
  2. Private Law
    Evelyn represents children and parents in private law litigation involving all applications under the Children Act including residence, contact, prohibited steps and leave to remove from the jurisdiction. She has acted in several cases involving allegations of child abduction. She has conducted a number of appeals in child law to the High Court and the Court of Appeal including Re HP (Children) 2003.

Crime

Evelyn Bugeja acts for both the defence and the prosecution (grade III). She is instructed as junior on a number of cases involving historic sex abuse and serious crimes of violence.

She has conducted video link trials, Proceeds of Crime Act applications and appeared on several occasions before the Court of Appeal.
