Brief Career Details
David hails from the West Midlands, completed his pupillage with Chambers in its previous premises at 6 Fountain Court in 1996 and has practised in Birmingham ever since. After a couple of years with a wide ranging and eclectic general common law practice, he has since specialised in the areas detailed below.
Crime
David has substantial experience in the criminal courts. He defends and prosecutes in equal measure, regarding the mix as healthy and advantageous to whoever is instructing. He is a grade III prosecutor. His practice incorporates the broad range of general crime, including fraud, serious offences of violence, group and football violence, drug related offences and sexual offences. His experience includes Divisional Court and Court of Appeal appearances.
David is also experienced in ancillary matters, such as ASBO, SOPO and POCA applications.
He regularly prosecutes on behalf of local authorities and defends in cases related to benefit frauds and trading standards.
David prides himself on thorough preparation and on the sensitive handling of clients and witnesses.
Employment
David brings considerable advocacy experience to the tribunal, where he is regularly instructed both by Claimants and Respondents. He has advised and represented individuals at all levels from the shop floor to the board room. He has acted on behalf of Trade Unions and the Royal College of Nursing.
His Respondent work varies from the small local firm to large companies. He has represented a number of non-commercial organisations such as universities and colleges.
David undertakes all aspects of employment tribunal work. His experience varies from large scale consultation over redundancy and TUPE issues to the employee whose lunch time involved posing in the office for photos to be sent to 'Reader's Wives'.
He has an interest in and experience of all aspects of discrimination work.
Civil Actions Against the Police
David has experience of acting against police authorities and advising in relation to allegations of misconduct against police officers, including alleged assault, wrongful arrest and false imprisonment and misfeasance in a public office.
