Background

Having taught Criminal Law, Evidence and Torts at the Universities of Leeds, Leicester and Wolverhampton, Chris returned to practice in 1997 whereupon he specialised in Crime, Personal Injury and Professional Negligence.  When he joined the then 6 Fountain Court in 2001 he focused on his criminal practice.

 

Crime

Chris mainly defends in the Crown Court, but is also a grade III prosecutor, and has prosecuted serious sexual offences, non-fatal offences against the person and firearms offences.


Recent notable defence cases have included the following:

R. v. Mark Hoolichan (gross negligence manslaughter)

R. v. Lee Gannon and others (murder)

R. v. Dwayne Walker (murder)

R. v. Ryan Graham and others (armed robbery of bookmakers’ shop)

R. v. Biolo Mukoko [2011] EWCA Crim 1181 (CA)(activation of custodial element of Suspended Sentence Order where community elements substantially complied with)

R. v. Parkes and Cartwright [2011] 2 Cr. App. R. (S.) 10 (football banning orders)


Chris also has appeared in many related civil proceedings, such as civil anti-social behaviour applications (for defendants) and criminal injuries compensation appeals (for claimants).


He currently organises the Cornwall Street Criminal Team CPD lectures.
