Regulatory Law

Andrew Wilkins has a broad experience of criminal cases and enjoys the challenge of those involving more unusual offences, whether appearing for the prosecution or defence.

His experience includes a variety of cases brought by local authorities, ranging from benefit deceptions to dishonest obtaining of council tenancies and multiple identity frauds.

Andrew has conducted cases on behalf of local authorities, FACT and CPS in addition to defending in cases concerning trade description, trade mark and copyright offences (especially involving counterfeit DVDs) and ensuing confiscation proceedings.

He has also been involved in planning cases, school exclusion appeals and attendance offences, and consumer protection cases (in particular involving breaches of Toy Safety Regulations).

In addition to prosecuting and defending in cases brought by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, including non-fraud VAT offences,  Andrew has experience of immigration offences, prosecutions under Air Navigation Orders and defending animal cruelty cases brought by the RSPCA.

Andrew also successfully conducted what is believed to be the only trial involving an offence of  “wi-fi piggy-backing” brought under Section 125 of the Communications Act 2003.
