Regulatory Law

Jon Davis’s particular specialism in the field of regulatory work is Part 8 of the Enterprise Act 2002. He has pioneered the development and use of this jurisdiction in the Midlands on behalf of local authorities and in conjunction with the Office of Fair Trading and the local Trading Standards Services.

He has acted and appeared in a number of high profile cases involving the use of Part 8 to injunct and, in certain instances, imprison rogue traders, including Birmingham City Council v Sharma (bogus TV repairer & ‘Watchdog’ favourite), Birmingham City Council v Gall (fraudulent & dangerous gas installer), Birmingham City Council v Edwards (bogus party entertainer & another ‘Watchdog’ favourite) and Wolverhampton City Council v Naughton (incompetent services installer).

In addition to appearing in court Jon has provided advice and been involved in the development and drafting of appropriate statements of case, applications, orders and undertakings for use in Part 8 proceedings, and at the invitation of the Office of Fair Trading and the Trading Standards Service has lectured to local authorities on the application and use of the  Part 8 jurisdiction against rogue traders
